Dancesport Australia - Coaching Accreditation
The Benefits and Responsibilities
The Accreditation Commission of Dancesport Australia and Dancesport Victoria would like to remind all our members of the many benefits and small number of requirements in being an accredited coach with Dancesport Australia.
As a professional sporting body, Dancesport Australia wishes to maintaining the highest standards of coaching for its members, whilst meeting the accreditation requirement of the Australian Sports Commission. There are many benefits to being accredited with Dancesport Australia including:
- Ensuring coaches achieve a minimum level of dancesport knowledge and have a competent understanding of the industry language;
- Providing career path for self-development, both as a coach as well as other areas of accreditation
- All students, coaches and studio proprietors work in a safe environment.
We would also like to reiterate that all DSA members are required to hold a finalised coaching qualification before undertaking any coaching of dancesport. ‘Coaching’ is not limited to registered competitors, it incorporates any form of dancesport. This applies equally to competitors competing in the Amateur Division or the Professional Division of competition. Coaching without the appropriate accreditation may result in the matter being brought before Dancesport Victoria.
The Department of Justice launched the Working With Children (WWC) Check scheme in 2006 and began issuing WWC Check cards under the Working with Children Act 2005. As the WWC Check card is valid for five years, some cars are due to be renewed in 2011.
